Monster Mash

To all appearances it's not a surprise that Halloween is my favorite time of year. If you know me well you know that I live every day like it's Halloween. Most everything in my home is Halloween themed, most of the time I feel like the love child of Bela Lugosi and Elvira, and if I went a week without watching a horror film I would probably shrivel and die. To some this might be a tad dramatic, but I tell no lies...DIE!

I know it's only August, but according to my count down tracker there are only 78 days left until Halloween!!!! This means it's time to dig into my closet and start posting some amazing Halloween themed outfits on my blog. I hope you enjoy peeping them as much as I enjoy showing them off.

“Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!”
 - Bram Stoker, Dracula

My first Halloween outfit consists mostly of items purchased from Etsy. To those of you who don't know Etsy is an e-commerce website focused on handmade or vintage items as well as art and craft supplies. These items cover a wide range including art, photography, clothing, jewelry, food, bath and beauty products, quilts, knick-knacks, and toys. I own a shop on Etsy called Everyday is like Hallowen. You can find a link for my Etsy shop alongside of my blog page. I have been buying from Etsy for a number of years and love all the unique and interesting items I have purchased. Recently I was seeking out fashion designers who will custom make items in my size. I wasn't having much luck until I found an amazing shop called Rebel Downtown. I picked up this wicked classic movie monster skirt from Rebel. I had been eying many Etsy pages for a long time to buy an item in this fabric, but every time I found something I loved it never came in my size. Rebel Downtown was the first page that I found that had larger sized items. Her size chart goes to 45" but she will make the item larger if you just shoot her a message. She is amazing and willing to work with you to make you 100% happy. You will not be disappointed with any of her items. Other items include super sweet purses and cosmetic bags. I should also mention as a bonus in my order I got as free monster fabric purse mirror. That's awesome customer service.

My sweater is 50% Etsy and 50% from Old Navy. I picked the sweater up last spring at Old Navy for about $20 and ordered these spooky Frankenstein hand patches from Cool Patches to iron on. I'm a big fan of adding patches to clothing to make it more Stina styles. Cool Patches has tons of different themed patches to pick from. I can't wait to buy some to add to a jean jacket for fall.

“There is something at work in my soul, which I do not understand.”
―Mary Shelley, Frankenstein

Last i would like to mention my accessories. The Frankenstein plugs were a gift so I'm not 100% sure where they were purchased. There is a page on Etsy called Super Plugs that make plugs very similar to mine. They seem to be a reasonable price for super cute Franky plugs. The Count Frightenstein necklace was made by me! I sell some Frightenstein items in my Etsy shop EILH so check them out. I also love custom making pieces so if you have an idea feel free to shoot me a message on my Etsy page.

Domino Dollhouse Grey Skull Babydoll Tank Dress

Just got this Domino Dollhouse tank dress in the mail this week. When I saw it posted about a month ago I knew I had to have it. This is a limited edition dress and Domino Dollhouse is known for selling out of styles quickly. You snooze you lose ladies so giddy up!

I ordered a size 3X and it fits pretty much perfect on my 24/26 frame. I say pretty much because the bust was a tiny bit big under the arms and I had to put in a couple stitches to have it fit perfect. It wasn’t a bad fit, but I’m crazy weird about any extra material hanging loose away from my skin. This dress is a really nice light cotton spandex blend with lots of stretch. The only area of the dress that does not stretch is the stitching under the bust so make sure you refer to the size chart when ordering.

I’m super psyched I picked this one up, it’s super easy to wear, its light and flowy and can totally be dressed up or down. Thanks DD<3

You can pick this dress up for $54.99 at Domino Dollhouse now, but remember when it's gone it's gone forever!!
Looking for a coupon code? You can always check out Tess Munster on Facebook. She lists a new Domino Dollhouse coupon code each month.

International Hot Dog Day !!!!

The dos and don'ts of hot dog etiquette...an essential film for wiener lovers.

Yesterday was international hot dog day so I pulled out my very best hot dog garb.

I totally had been saving this T-shirt for a future post, but when I saw it was international hot dog day I jumped up and down and ran for the tee. I picked this t-shirt up super cheap from Mondo Guerra. I have always been a huge fan and supporter of Mondo. This is the third t-shirt I have ordered from his site. I find his stuff so wonderful and quirky. He is such an amazing designer. My favorite ever from Project runway. I pay to the fashion gods that someday he will come out with a collection that will fit on my fat ass. Until then I continue to be inspired by his styles and try to recreate them though pieces I pick up at fat friendly stores.
What hot dog tee is complete without a crazy colorful junk food skirt??  I picked this skirt up a few weeks ago planning to wear it with the hot dog tee. I thought the fabric was so perfectly yummy. The skirt came from Etsy. This is the second skirt I have purchased from Rebel Downtown. Rebel Downtown has tons of kitchy and comic fabrics she works with to make clothing and accessories. Her prices are really fantastic. I paid under $40 for this skirt. I think that is a great price to have something custom made to my size. I believe the skirts on her page are listed up to a 45" waist, but she will custom size something larger. Check her out on Etsy and on intragram @ Rebeldowntown
It was important to me to have the right accessories for such a delicious outfit. I knew I was going to make them myself, but went through many ideas before the light bulb went off. This outfit was going to be like the best date ever. I envisioned myself  with hot dog in hand and junk food on my lap so it only made sense I was at the drive in movies. If I was going to be at the drive in I would totally be peeping some 3D B-movie cheese! The 3D glasses necklace was born. The 3D necklace can be purchased at Everyday is like Halloween and button from Mondo.
The whole ensemble was completed with a ring I feel sums it up nicely. Also from Everyday is like Halloween

LEGGING MANIA

"In the midnight hour, she cried more, more, more. With a rebel yell, she cried more, more, more!!!!!"

Billy Idol's Rebel Yell has absolutely nothing to do with leggings. But in my head, when I think of leggings, I scream MORE, MORE, MORE!!! I'm totes psyched to be talking about leggings today. Leggings are mega exciting to me, but I'm more pumped because this is my first post that will be a part of a plus size fashion blog hop. For those of you who don't know what a blog hop is, it's a virtual blog party that often involves a theme. People sign up to participate in whatever the theme is and write their own individual blog post about that theme. They then all publish their posts to their individual blog at the same time. I will be doing this blog hop with a group of amazing, beautiful, strong and stylish plus size women. So you can see why I'm so thrilled to be a part of this monthly project.

Black and White Skull Brocade Print Leggings (size 3X) - From DEB
I would like to start this legging excellence by thanking the 80s for bringing leggings into my life. It was the fitness and aerobics craze in the very early 1980s that helped leggings make their way from the gyms and dance studios to the streets. Cyndi Lauper, Madonna and dance crazed media sucked in every young 80s girl. It may be hard to believe, but I was kicking back then and rocking some pretty sweet legs. I have actually been around to see leggings hit a high three times and I have welcomed them each and every time. In the 90s, girls showed less of the legging, but they were still there. Hidden by long length skirts and slouch socks, we were a little less expressive with patterns and lace and more about the stir-up style. One element that has always remained is the boot. The boot is very important to the legging style. It has changed a bit like the legging itself, but they have always been the perfect coupling.

Cross Print Capri Length leggings (size 3X) - From Dots

In the last few months I have been trying to expand my legging collection. For many years I stuck with mainly black to wear under skirts and dresses, but recently we have had a re-surge of fantastic print and lace leggings. I could buy a different pair every day and be happy forever. I have found that sizing is ALL over the place when buying leggings. Most plus size stores tend to fit great, but I have found that some leggings are too big. Really! With a lot of buying and trying on, I have gotten my size down at many shops. My legs are not overly long. I am 5'6 on a good day. I have legs shaped like chicken drumsticks. Quite narrow at the ankle. Normal sized calf and large thigh. My hips are 64" and my waist 50". Here is how I have found different stores to fit.

TORRID - Has run large on me. If the legging is a spandex/cotton blend, I always order a size 2. If the legging is spandex/poly, I go with a 3 and hope for the best. I'm still not 100% on target with Torrid leggings. But I do know that I am around a size 2 or 3, even though according to their size chart, my body measurements are around a 4 or 5. Torrid is a great place to order leggings from if you have larger calves or ankles. They have a great deal of stretch and seem to hold up well to washing. I have had a few pairs of the colored leggings fade, but they are leggings so I don't expect them to have a super long life. My favorite black capri lace bottom leggings come from Torrid. They are perfect to wear under any summer dress to help with chub rub.

Grey and Black Skull Leggings (Size 2X) - From Torrid

DEB - Deb carries junior plus so it can be hit and miss. Junior plus is typically a smaller cut than regular plus. I have found that I can fit into most of their size 3X leggings. Some have been pretty tight or short from crouch to waist. Others have fit perfect, even when they are from the same manufacturer. Go figure. They have lots of awesome patterns and great, low prices. It's worth the risk when they are under $20.

White and Black Striped Leggings (Size 3X) - From Deb

DOTS - I normally buy a size 3X at Dots. However, I have found styles that run large. They carried these really amazing sweater leggings in the winter and they were super large. I totally got away with a 2X in those and maybe could have gone down to a 1X. Dots is another place to get some funky patterns at a reasonable price.

Tights in Scarlet Red (Size E) - From We Love Colors

WE LOVE COLORS - The last place I want to cover in my legging mania post is not really a "legging" place but falls more into the "legging-like things" category. We Love Colors is my new favorite place for all things tights-related. In the past, I have been constantly left with crotch sag by almost every brand of tights I have tried. This can totally get a girl down, but I never gave up. I have always been unhappy with tights, but knew the right pair was out there somewhere. I have found them at We Love Colors. At first, I was hesitant because purchasing and shipping one item to Canada was kind of expensive (around $25, I believe). I assure you it was worth every penny. They fit like a dream. The color is beautiful and did not become opaque when i put them on. And they have 51 colors to choose from. HELL YES! In the future, I will order more than one pair at a time to save on shipping. NOTE: To all my friends and family reading this and looking for a future gift…hint, hint: a We Love Colors gift card would be perfect.

In the 80s I was obsessed with Madonna and Desperately seeking Susan. Madonna defiantly  influenced my legging love. If your not currently a legging girl I would say: "Get into the groove and give them a try, you won't regret it".

This post was made as part of the AHEAD OF THE CURVE BLOG HOP. Please show these amazing bloggers some love and check out their posts on "Legging like things"

Come Sail Away With Me

OOTD Randomness

For those who may not know ootd is short for outfit of the day. I'm involved in a few Facebook groups that are geared around posting ootd's. I have also found Tumblr to be first-rate outlet  for ootd randomness. I would like to share the simplicity of the daily outfit post on my blog. Sometimes it just needs to be. I have many older styles in my closet and even know you many not be able to pick them up currently I think they are still interesting and relevant.
