A Borrowed Decade; 70s/80s Confectionery Mash-up

This month's Ahead of the Curve theme is A Borrowed Decade.  While out thrifting last week I came across a vintage blouse from the 80's that was crafted with a 70's inspiration. It's totally not my typical style but something about it was calling out to me, and it was perfect for this month's theme. I'm not the type of girl to pick up pink clothing, in fact I'm not sure I even own another pink top, but the ruffles! Oh how I love ruffles! I'm still trying to adjust to my lighter hair color, and with that comes some wardrobe color changes as well, so I figured what the heck? Let's do this! So now I own a pink blouse. I have to be honest, not a lot of thought went into this look. Sometimes I just start with hair and makeup, work my way to the clothing, and just run with it. There are things I love about this look such as my new blouse and hair, However, there are things I would change up next time. I am not totally loving the skirt I picked from my closet to wear, it's just something I've had kicking around for two years that I though fit the bill. I was going for an early 70's hippie vibe, but in hindsight I should have gone with the black, three-tiered ruffle skirt I own for more of an 80's look. Looking at the photos after they were taken I could see a hint of Jem and the Holograms and I regret not seeing it sooner and running with it. Guess this look will just have to be the lovechild of Janis Joplin and Jem... trippy!

I always loving getting feedback so let me know in the comments how you felt about my interpretation of this months theme. Thanks for the peep you filthy creep...

eShakti Review: Pastel Floral Kayla Dress

Recently I was contacted by eShakti and asked if I would be interested in reviewing one of their items. I jumped at the opportunity because they have a lot of beautiful clothing for sale and who doesn't want a new dress for free?! eShakti sent me a link with a ton of items to choose from (well over 100), but when thinking about what to try I decided to go with something I wouldn't normally wear. Something different, new, and a little out of my comfort zone. After hours of browsing I finally chose the Kayla Dress in pastel floral. One of the lovely things about eShakti is they customize the size and adjust each item to your liking. How many times have you seen an item and thought, "I wish I could adjust the length, add or remove sleeves, or even adjust the neckline?" Well, with eShakti, you can!! Total freedom to fit their items to your own style and comfort level.

This is the dress I custom designed for myself.

When you custom order an item from eShakti you need to know all of your measurements. In addition to the typical bust, waist, and hip measurements you will have to know shoulder width, arm length, height, etc., so they can make your item perfectly fitted for your body. I love the idea of having an item made specifically for my figure. My Kayla Dress is made out of Polyester and Knit Crepe, it's a mid-weight dress with no stretch, so if you order this particular dress take note of the fabric and keep this in mind when taking your measurements.
The dress is shaped by princess seams that keep the bodice flatteringly fitted before releasing into a fully flared skirt.
I have to say, for the most part the fit is pretty bang on, and the dress fits like a dream. Everywhere except my waist fits perfectly and that is only about two inches too big. It's not a big deal and still looks great, I just would have liked the waist to be cinched in a bit more. The custom elements I added to the dress were an elbow-length sleeve and a sweetheart neckline; I find the sweet heart neckline is more flattering on my chest and by changing both of these elements I also gave the dress a more vintage feel. I was very happy with the fit through my arms and across the chest. These are both areas I have had issues with quite often when shopping. I don't know how many dresses I have in my closet where the bust fits great, but the neckline is just way too big. It's a really annoying problem so I appreciate eShakti for getting this neckline right.

For reference this dress is listed with a capsleeve and a wide V neck; this is what the Kayla dress looked like without my custom elements.

With all orders being custom made you would think it would take a while to receive your item. When you place your order eShakti gives you an approximate shipping date and once your item is in the mail it actually arrives very fast. I think I had my dress two days after it shipped. The item arrived neatly folded in a thin box and was wrinkle free and ready to wear. The fabric is kind of like a dream and does not wrinkle easy at all, which is fantastic. I would have no concern folding this dress up and putting it in a suit case for a spring getaway.
