Fortune Teller Realness in Candy Strike

Do the creep and take a peep at my totally sickening look!! Yesterday I went to the Toronto show of RuPaul's Drag Race Battle of the Seasons; the show was the perfect excuse to dress up and go for a dramatic and campy look. I'm totally in love with this outfit because I'm serving up bad ass, fortune teller realness!
The main attraction of this look really is my dress, I picked it up from Candy-Strike a few months ago, but this was the first occasion I found to wear it. This is the long-sleeved Ghost Girl maxi dress. I paired this dress with my Hell Bunny Ouija cardigan to keep warm, but I can't wait for spring so I can wear this dress on it's own. If you peeped the link and noticed it was not the exact same dress I'm in, have no fear, it's a better spring-time version! Candy-Strike currently offers a short sleeved, slightly different version of the Ghost Girl, that's equally as killer as this one. This dress is totally fierce, totes comfy, and light weight for a maxi. I love the attention to detail with the screen-printed, distressed skulls. Not into maxi dresses? Candy-Strike also sells a shorted skater dress version of this dress. If you love them, grab them up now, because once Candy-Strike's unique, handcrafted designs sell out, they rarely come back.
I finished my look off with a turban-style head-wrap, some necklaces, and dramatic make-up. I've been dying to try a turban look, but I wasn't 100% sure I could pull it off. I'm glad I gave it a go and am excited to try other head wraps now. The scarf used for the turban is a scarf I've blogged about in the past. It's my favorite scarf and is covered in triangles and eyes! I picked it up last year at ASOS, so it's no longer available :(. However, you're not totally out of luck, because last week I did creep a shorter version of this scarf in-store at Ardene.

 NOW BRING ME MY GIRLS!!!!!

I finally met Alaska Thunderfuck so it was a great night, but I must admit I really wanted to see Sharon !!! She will always be my witch.

Love, Lace and Ru

For optimal viewing gratification please enjoy this video while perusing my post.

This month's Ahead of the Curve blogger's collective theme is Love and Lace. We decided we wanted to add a little something special for February and share how we love ourselves just the way we are. When I started thinking about this post I literally quoted Mama Ru out loud. She is one of my idols; she is full of wisdom and I totally live for her inspiration. If you never listen to the videos I attach to my posts that is totally cool, but this one really has an amazing message and goes along with this post, so please do click and listen. You won't regret it, I promise.

So it's no secret that I love my Hell Bunny and Spin Doctor clothing, I recently picked up this stunning Spin Doctor Zylphia mini lace dress from Sweet Echo Plus. If you're a regular reader of mine you know Sweet Echo is my go-to place for Hell Bunny clothing. I love that they are local so I don't have to spend a fortune on currency exchange. The exchange rate is totes brutal right now! I guess it also means if you're American then their stuff is 15-20% cheaper. Bonus!
I wore this dress for Christmas dinner and fell in love with it. If it looks a little different than you've seen it before it's because I decided to remove the beautiful chains that come on the font of the dress for a more dressed down look. I think the chains are a lovely detail and being able to dress this piece up or down is just perfect. I wanted to wear my new HB Ouija varsity jacket with this dress and the beaded chain just would have looked silly with it as well. Most of the time I wear a 4X in Spin Doctor and Hell Bunny dresses and this one is no exception. This dress does not have much stretch nor the stretch panel in the back, but it still fits quite perfect. I have a large bust at 53". The hips are free flowing and very full. I'm very fond of how full the bottom of the dress is without having to wear a petticoat with it.
Some might find my choice to wear a casual jacket and boots odd with this dress. I'm actually very fond of mixing more casual and dressy items together. This look is sort of girl who dressed up for the prom enough to make her mama happy, but ditched it to go smoke cigs and hang with her BF at the park. Yep! That's right, I'm forty, but #effyouragestandards and #effyourbeautystandards!!
I am totes in love with my new Ouija Letterman jacket, too. I was a little afraid it might not work for me because I've had HB coats be hit or miss in the past but this one fits like a dream. It is not a super warm coat, but it is nicer than a hoodie. It has a similar type of material on the outside, but it is lined inside. If you want to purchase it, keep in mind the sleeves don't have any stretch with the lining. I do not find them tight at all around my 16" arms and have some room to spare. The jacket hits me at the perfect length when done up since I prefer a shorter crop jacket. If you love all things ouija, spooky, and witchy, this is the coat for you!  I am wearing a size 4X in this jacket and it's available for pre-order for $60 Canadian by messaging Michelle at Sweet Echo Plus FB. This item will not be listed on her webpage until next week so get a jump on it with the pre-order if you want to secure your size.
To complete my look I added a few ouija and witchy accessories as well as a pair of combat boots. All the jewelry was made by myself for EILH. My sunglasses came from Forever 21 last season and unfortunatly are currently unavailable. If you need them I'm sure you could glue gun some cross charms on any pair you pick up; they can't be to hard to make. Lastly my go-to combat boots, maybe its an 80's/90's girl thang, but I just love big boots with dresses. I guess it's just how I roll.

Happy Love Day!!! <3 <3 <3
