This month's Ahead of the Curve theme is A Borrowed Decade. While out thrifting last week I came across a vintage blouse from the 80's that was crafted with a 70's inspiration. It's totally not my typical style but something about it was calling out to me, and it was perfect for this month's theme. I'm not the type of girl to pick up pink clothing, in fact I'm not sure I even own another pink top, but the ruffles! Oh how I love ruffles! I'm still trying to adjust to my lighter hair color, and with that comes some wardrobe color changes as well, so I figured what the heck? Let's do this! So now I own a pink blouse. I have to be honest, not a lot of thought went into this look. Sometimes I just start with hair and makeup, work my way to the clothing, and just run with it. There are things I love about this look such as my new blouse and hair, However, there are things I would change up next time. I am not totally loving the skirt I picked from my closet to wear, it's just something I've had kicking around for two years that I though fit the bill. I was going for an early 70's hippie vibe, but in hindsight I should have gone with the black, three-tiered ruffle skirt I own for more of an 80's look. Looking at the photos after they were taken I could see a hint of Jem and the Holograms and I regret not seeing it sooner and running with it. Guess this look will just have to be the lovechild of Janis Joplin and Jem... trippy!
I always loving getting feedback so let me know in the comments how you felt about my interpretation of this months theme. Thanks for the peep you filthy creep...

I'm on the hunt for a bigger crimping iron!! Look out 80s hair.
DeleteGreat thrifting find - so many ruffles! You did a great job of bridging the 70s and 80s with this look. Your hair and glasses definitely lend a bit of grooviness and psychedelia to the overall look. I just love pastel hair, and you made it feel wild and funky instead of candy-sweet!

It's a fun look!!
ReplyDeleteI actually really pig that blouse as well, I'm the same with not owning a pink top. But I can totally see an awesome outlandish tuxedo blouse in the ruffles and immediately pictures it with a ladies style black tuxedo jacket and either a black mini skirt of some cigarette type pants!
I adore you hair and make up!!

ReplyDeleteHA!!! I like pig better;) I totally agree with your styling!! When I grabbed the shirt I also considered a more Annie Lennox sort of look. You nailed that with your style suggestion.

I like the look. Reminds me of a white shirt I had in high school that I used to wear with pinstripe pants, my shirt had a little less volume with the ruffles though. What lip color are you wearing?
ReplyDeleteI had a white shirt like this in the 90s in HS as well. Mine was a bit more pirate like.
DeleteLime Crime Cashmere for my lips:))
