Dressed To Kill in Black Lipstick

I'm super stoked  to be sharing my first submission for the Alternative Curves blog hop. Alternative Curves is an international community of blogger babes who have a quirky and unique sense of personal style. Once a month Alternative Curves bloggers push themselves to strange and unusual fashion extremes in a themed outfit challenge. This months theme is Black Lipstick. When I think of black lipstick the lyrics to Sharon Needles "Dressed to Kill" come to mind so I took inspiration from that song for this post.

 My poison of choice when it comes to a black lip is Black Cat from Pretty Zombie Cosmetics. I'm totally addicted to liquid Matte lipsticks and find I wear them 99% of the time. I find the Black Cat lasts all day with minimal touch ups and next to no bleeding. Another awesome thing about Black Cat is the price, it's only $12 and lasts for months. A little of this product goes a long way. Black lipstick has improved so much from when I was a teen in the early 90s. Wet and Wild was the only black stick you could find back then and you had to stock up hard core at Halloween to keep you going the whole year. The product was horrid and transferred, bleed and faded super fast, but life was hard for the 90s goth.

A Borrowed Decade; 70s/80s Confectionery Mash-up

This month's Ahead of the Curve theme is A Borrowed Decade.  While out thrifting last week I came across a vintage blouse from the 80's that was crafted with a 70's inspiration. It's totally not my typical style but something about it was calling out to me, and it was perfect for this month's theme. I'm not the type of girl to pick up pink clothing, in fact I'm not sure I even own another pink top, but the ruffles! Oh how I love ruffles! I'm still trying to adjust to my lighter hair color, and with that comes some wardrobe color changes as well, so I figured what the heck? Let's do this! So now I own a pink blouse. I have to be honest, not a lot of thought went into this look. Sometimes I just start with hair and makeup, work my way to the clothing, and just run with it. There are things I love about this look such as my new blouse and hair, However, there are things I would change up next time. I am not totally loving the skirt I picked from my closet to wear, it's just something I've had kicking around for two years that I though fit the bill. I was going for an early 70's hippie vibe, but in hindsight I should have gone with the black, three-tiered ruffle skirt I own for more of an 80's look. Looking at the photos after they were taken I could see a hint of Jem and the Holograms and I regret not seeing it sooner and running with it. Guess this look will just have to be the lovechild of Janis Joplin and Jem... trippy!
